I received my PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision in 2018 from the University of Iowa. I also have my Master’s degree from Saint Cloud State University located in Minnesota in Rehabilitation Counseling. I utilize many of the foundational concepts of rehabilitation counseling such as advocacy, and a larger systems approach to much of my work and therapeutic lens. I operate from a holistic and trauma-informed approach exploring all aspects of a person and their environment and how this may be impacting their overall mental health and wellbeing. A primary belief that I hold about counseling is that it does not need to be only when we are experiencing a crisis or problem. Sometimes the intention of therapy can and should be to learn more about yourself, your relationships, and how your life experiences have impact you.
I have experience in working individuals who have experienced traumatic experiences, grief, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. I enjoy working with individuals in the adjustment process whether that be adjusting to a new school, new phase of life, or new relationship. I pull from various theoretical orientations such as CBT, narrative therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and mindfulness.
